Cefiget Syrup SIDE-EFECTS

Cefixime is generally well-tolerated and any side effects are generally short-lived.

Gastrointestinal disturbance:

  • Diarrhea (if severe diarrhea occurs, cefixime should be discontinued),
  • changes in the color of stool,
  • nausea,
  • abdominal pain,
  • dyspepsia,
  • vomiting,
  • and flatulence has been reported.
  • Pseudomembranous colitis has also been reported.
  • Central nervous system disturbance:
  • Headache,
  • dizziness,
  • seizures.
  • Hepatic Conditions:
  • Transientrises of liver transaminases, alkaline phosphatase, and jaundice are also possible.
  • Other:
  • Hypersensitivity reactions that generally subside when discontinuing therapy; occasionally irreversible hematological disorders; elevation levels of amylase serum. Prothrombin-related time increases have been observed in a few patients. Other reactions that could be a result include vaginitis and genital pruritis.

Cefixime is not recommended for those who have hypersensitivity to any ingredient in this medication. Patients with a history of an allergy to the group of cephalosporin of antibiotics. For children under six months of age as the effectiveness and safety of cefixime in these patients haven’t been confirmed. Precautions – Cephalosporins are to be administered with caution to patients who are penicillin sensitive since there is evidence of a partial cross-allergenicity between penicillins and the cephalosporins. Cefixime – Cefixime is to be used cautiously in patients who have severely impaired renal function.

The use of wide-spectrum antibiotics can alter the colon’s normal flora and can lead to the growth of Clostridia. Pseudomembranous Colitis is a result of the use of broad-spectrum antibiotics (including macrolides semi-synthetic penicillins and cephalosporins) and it is essential to be aware of its presence for patients who experience diarrhea as a result of the treatment with antibiotics. The symptoms of pseudomembranous colitis can occur either during or following treatment with antibiotics. Broad-spectrum antibiotics, such as cefixime are recommended with caution for patients with a history of digestive disease, especially colitis. Don’t use cefixime in the treatment of S. aureus because the staphylococcus strain is intolerant to cefixime. Pregnancy There aren’t any sufficient and well-controlled studies on pregnant women.

Cefixime is not taken during pregnancy unless it is deemed vital by the doctor. Nursing mothers, It isn’t established whether cefixime can be excreted in human milk. It is recommended to consider the temporary cessation of nursing while taking this medication. Drug Interactions with Anticoagulants It is recommended to exercise caution for patients taking anticoagulants in conjunction with cefixime because cefixime could increase the prothrombin duration.

Increased levels of carbamazepine have been reported, when cefixime is given concurrently. Drug monitoring could assist in detecting changes in plasma levels of carbamazepine. Lab/Drug Interactions – A false positive reaction for ketones found in urine can occur when using tests using nitroprusside, but not when that use nitroferricyanide. A false-positive reaction to glucose in the urine can occur using Benedict’s or Fehling’s solution or using copper sulfate test tablets, however, not with tests that are based on the enzymatic reaction of glucose oxidase. The false positive of the Coombs test is documented in the course of treatment with cephalosporin antibiotics. Therefore, it must be noted that the positive Coombs test could be due to the medication.
